Small Businesses Ask Court to Halt Trump’s “Liberation Day” Tariffs
The lawsuit may test the limits of presidential emergency powers over trade policy.
Five small import-reliant businesses have filed suit in the U.S. Court of International Trade to block the implementation of President Donald Trump’s sweeping new tariffs on virtually all imported goods. The plaintiffs contend that the tariffs, imposed through a recent executive order, exceed the president’s statutory authority and have caused immediate economic harm. The court is now weighing whether to issue a temporary restraining order to halt the tariffs while the case proceeds.
